Discovering The History And Concepts Of Different Branches of Yoga
Some people may link that the origins of hatha yoga which dates back in the tenth or eleventh century with Goraknath, a yogin during those times. However, the oldest surviving text about hatha yoga is the Hatha Yoga Pradipika by yogin, Yogi Swatmarama. The text is said to be taken from old Sanskrit writings and personal yogin experiences of the yogin himself. The text relates about shatkarma, asana, pranayama, chakras, kundalini, bandhas, kriyas, shakti, nadis, and mudras among others.
Concept of Hatha yoga: The total concept of the traditional hatha yoga is a holistic yogic path comprising of moral disciplines, physical exercises, breath control, and meditation. The hatha yoga that is widely practiced and popular in the western countries mainly composed of the "asanas" or postures and other exercises.
Hatha yoga is only one of the two concepts of yoga that concentrates on the physical culture and the other yoga is the Raja yoga but both of these are referred to as Ashtanga yoga. The main difference is that the Raja yoga concentrates more on the "asanas" or postures to get the body ready for a prolonged meditation that concentrates mainly on the meditative "asana" poses. The hatha yoga on the other hand concentrates on balancing the mind and body through physical exercises, controlled breathing, and calming the mind through meditation and sheer relaxation.
Different positions or postures are recommended by practitioners to help lessen or avoid health problems ranging from constipation through cancer. It was said that it helps to reduce stress, pressure, and other mental worries that people today are frequently exposed to.
History of Karma Yoga
Karma yoga also known as Buddhi Yoga or the "discipline of action" is centered on the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, a sacred Sanskrit scripture of Hinduism. One of the four pillars of yoga, Karma yoga concentrates on the adherence to duty (dharma) while remaining detached from the reward. It states that one can attain Moksha (salvation) or love of God (bhakti) by performing their duties in a selfless manner for the pleasure of the Supreme. Karma Yoga is an inherent part of many derivative types of yoga, such as Natya Yoga.
Concept Of Karma Yoga
The word Karma is mentioned from the Sanskrit Kri, meaning 'to do', in its most basic sense karma simply means action, and yoga translates to union. Therefore, Karma yoga literally translates to the path of union through action. It is described as a way of acting, thinking and willing by which one acts in accordance with one's duty (dharma) with no consideration of personal selfish desires, likes or dislikes, i.e. acting without being emotionally involved to the fruits of one's deeds.
In the case of Arjuna in the Gita, this translated to his fighting in the oncoming war to uphold the righteous cause in accordance with his duty as a warrior; even if out of compassion, he did not want to battle with his relatives and teachers on the other side.
Krishna then goes on to tell how Arjuna should surrender the fruits of his actions (good or bad) to himself (as the Supreme Person or avatara) :
Krishna describes that allocated work done without expectations, motives, or anticipation of its outcome purifies one's mind and slowly makes an individual fit to see the value of reason. He states that it is not necessary to remain in external solitude, or actionless, in order to practice a spiritual life, with the state of action or inaction is solely determined in the mind.
In order to attain the perfection of life, Krishna describes it is important to control all mental desires and tendencies to enjoy pleasures of the senses. The practice of Karma Yoga in everyday life makes an individual fit through action, meditation and devotion to sharpen his reasoning, develop intuitive power of acquiring knowledge and to transcend the mind itself.
History Of Raja Yoga
Raja Yoga also known as Classical Yoga or simply Yoga is one of the six orthodox (astika) schools of Hindu philosophy, being described Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras. It is also occasionally referred to as A??anga (eight-limbed) yoga because there are eight aspects to the path to which one must attend. Raja yoga is concerned primarily with the cultivation of the mind using meditation (dhyana) to further one's acquaintance with reality and finally achieve liberation.
The term Raja Yoga is a retronym, introduced in the 15th century Hatha Yoga Pradipika to differentiate the school based on the Yoga Sutras from the new current of Hatha Yoga.
Concept of Raja Yoga
Raja-Yoga is principally concerned with the mind. The mind is traditionally perceived as the 'king' of the psycho-physical structure which does its bidding (whether or not one has realized this). Because of the relationship between the mind and the body, the body must be 'tamed' first through self-discipline and purified by various means (see Hatha Yoga). A good level of overall health and psychological integration must be achieved before the deeper aspects of yoga can be pursued. Humans have all sorts of addictions and temptations and these preclude the attainment of tranquil abiding (meditation). Through restraint (yama) such as celibacy, abstaining from drugs and alcohol and careful attention to one's actions of body, speech and mind, the human being becomes well to practise meditation. This yoke that one puts upon oneself is the alternate meaning of the word yoga.
Patanjali's Yoga Sutras start with the statement yogas citta-vtti-nirodha (1.2), "yoga limits the oscillations of the mind". They proceed on to detailing the ways in which mind can create false ideations and advocate meditation on real objects, which process, it is said, will lead to a spontaneous state of quiet mind, the "Nirbija" or "seedless state", in which there is no mental object of focus. Practices that serve to maintain for the individual the ability to check this state may be considered Raja Yoga practices. Thus Raja Yoga encompasses and differentiates itself from other forms of Yoga by encouraging the mind to avoid the sort of absorption in obsessional practice (including other traditional yogic practices) that can generate false mental objects. In this angle, Raja Yoga is "king of yogas": all yogic practices are seen as potential tools for obtaining the seedless state, itself considered to be the first point in the quest to cleanse Karma and obtain Moksha or Nirvana. Traditionally, schools of yoga that label themselves "Raja" offer students a mix of yogic practices and (hopefully) this philosophical viewpoint.

Why Breathing Correctly is So Important in Yoga and in Life
Scientists and doctors have shown that the way you breathe can have a serious impact on your mental state as well as your physical state. It's been proven that just a few minutes of deep breathing can help people to calm down when they are angry or upset. Deep breathing can also help people who are depressed. When you breathe deeply and fill your body with oxygen your circulation improves and your brain releases endorphins, which induce a sense of peace and well-being. So if you're feeling sad or depressed and you spend a few minutes breathing properly you will feel better instantly.
But when your breathing is shallow and quick instead of deep and long you will begin to feel worse. You aren't getting enough oxygen into your body and you also are not getting rid of the carbon dioxide your body produces. When that carbon dioxide starts to build up you will start to feel ill because carbon dioxide is a waste product. Deep inhalation and then deep exhalation will help the body rid itself of the toxic carbon dioxide and replenish it with oxygen and you will feel better.
It's not necessary to spend thousands of dollars every month on supplements and over the counter drugs to feel better. You can start feeling better immediately if you become more aware of your breathing and you consciously make time to breathe deeply and help your body cleanse itself everyday. Just sitting down for a few minutes to center yourself and take long deep breaths will do you a world of good.

How To Choose A Yoga Mat
That's when I decided to write an article about the different types of yoga mats out there, how to choose one that's best for you, and how to choose one that isn't terrible for the environment either.
The Standard Cheap Yoga Mat
Many people get a cheapo mat the first time. This is fine, especially if you're not sure whether you are going to be a yoga fanatic yet. You can usually find these from between $5 and $10 at any mega-store like Target or Kmart.
There are several problems with a standard yoga mat. First, they are often very thin and do not provide much cushioning. Most importantly, however, they stink like chemicals and are made using a very environmentally hazardous process. Furthermore, the chemicals used may be bad for your health. They are made using Phthalates, which turn hard plastics into soft plastics. Studies on rodents involving large amounts of phthalates have shown damage to the liver, the kidneys, the lungs and the developing testes.
I know a lot of people who use standard yoga mats and they're not dead or dying (that I know of). Just don't leave them in the trunk of your car because they tend to release a chemical smell when they get hot.
Jute and Cork Yoga Mats
Jute and cork yoga mats are an affordable, eco-friendly alternative to the standard yoga mat, but they have some drawbacks of their own. Cork and jute mats both come from very porous plants. As the material absorbs your sweat during yoga classes, it becomes A: a bit stinky and B: a little weak. While it is not going to fall apart in your hands like wet paper, don't expect one of these to last a long time if you do yoga more than once a month.
Rubber Yoga Mats
Rubber yoga mats are my favorite. They are durable, affordable and - best of all - they are made from rubber, which is a fairly sustainable material that comes from the rubber tree. Just make sure that you are buying a "natural" rubber mat because the material can be produced synthetically as well - although synthetic rubber isn't nearly as bad for the environment and your health as phthalates.
Natural rubber yoga mats should be avoided if you are allergic to latex. Instead, try one of the phthalate-free, latex free mats from this page http://www.gaiam.com/retail/product/95-1041_OLIV . They are a little more expensive, but if you are allergic to latex, don't want to work out on chemicals, and need something that isn't going to fall apart on you - this type of mat is definitely the way to go.
Using a Pilates Mat for Yoga
Pilates mats are much thicker than yoga mats. This is required because you are spending more time on the floor, often with pressure points like hips, knees, shoulders and elbows supporting some or all of your weight. It is also very important for cushioning to keep your spine from getting injured when doing rolls while lying on your back. Can you use a pilates mat for yoga? Sure, but they are more expensive, bulkier, and you will need to make sure they have a non-slip surface. Yoga mats do tend to be "stickier" which is needed when doing most asanas. But if you do yoga and pilates, try buying just the pilates mat and see if you like it for yoga as well. I do not, however, advise using a yoga mat for pilates, as it can cause injury.
Places to find yoga mats online:
http://www.gaiam.com/yoga/ - Gaiam Yoga Products are well known for their quality and for including many eco-conscious options like jute and rubber. The can be a little pricey, but if you look for items on sale there are deals to be found.
http://www.ecomall.com/biz/fitness.htm - Eco Mall's yoga and fitness section has a huge list of online resources, most of which have a "green" outlook on business.
http://www.firstpagefitness.com/directory/ - First Page Fitness has a directory of businesses in the fitness industry, many of which sell yoga mats online.
http://www.target.com - Target has a lot of inexpensive yoga products, including a few different types of standard yoga and pilates mats. If your goal is to just buy something cheap to get started with, I'd advise skipping all of the expensive shops and just going to Target.
Using the Class Yoga Mats
I strongly discourage using the communal yoga mats found in most fitness centers and studios. These are breeding grounds for germs and bacteria. You can buy yoga mat wipes if you must use a communal mat. Most of these wipes are just expensively packaged alcohol pads, so you can save a lot of money by getting a box of wipes from Walgreens.
Going Without a Yoga Mat
People have been practicing yoga for thousands of years without modern mats. The reason why most people these days use a yoga mat is because they wear socks, which cause their feet to slip during poses. Even if they do their yoga routine without socks (which can be very unhygienic in most fitness centers and yoga studios) today's yoga routine typically takes place on a tile or hard-wood floor, which becomes slippery as the feet sweat. Thus, a sticky yoga mat provides the necessary foundation on which to perform the asanas. However, if you regularly practice yoga in an environment that does not have a slippery surface - such as outdoors or on carpet - there really is no need for a yoga mat at all. I have also found that a pair of yoga socks like these - http://www.gaiam.com/retail/product/95-9196_MSTR - works just as well as a mat without all of the hassle and a fraction of the cost.
Whether you go with a standard mat, a Pilates mat, socks, or one of the many "green" options available these days, there is a yoga mat made just for you! I hope the above information helps you decide.
Youth and Children Yoga Pants Available
A lot of exercises and activities in this day and age are too strenuous for children or kids under a certain age. But with Yoga anyone, it doesn't matter the age, size, or sex, can do it. In fact, it is one of the most beneficial exercise activities for people of all ages to involve themselves in. Not only can it make your body healthier, but it has also been proven to reduce stress and other health related ailments. If that wasn't enough it also can "calm" the soul and mind. Yoga was first started as a spiritual practice in Hinduism almost 5000 years ago, but now in the more modern age a part of Yoga known as Asana has grown purely as a form of exercise. Asana is simply a way of keeping fit and healthy.
If you are interested in getting your children into something like this, it would be a good idea to start looking into things like yoga classes, as well as yoga apparel for your child. Yoga and Animal Welfare - The True Path to Peace and Harmony
Twenty-first century is the age of technological advancement. But this is definitely not a period of harmony with oneself or with other species on earth. Both are intricately connected.
We can find true peace within ourselves only if we are compassionate, empathetic towards other species. Ahimsa or nonviolence is an integral concept of yoga. The ability to love all and not harm any species is the true path to yoga and self-realization.
Yoga is just not about physical fitness. We follow a specific diet to improve physical fitness; the same rule applies to improve our mental health. Yoga diet includes organic food grown in harmony with nature.
A short note on history of yoga will tell us how yoga and animal welfare is connected. Patanjali is considered to be the father of yoga. Many do not know that Lord Dattatreya is the guru of Patanjali. Lord Dattatreya left home at an early age to roam the forests, and lived on a simple diet. One of his charming traits is he loved all animals. He was always found in the company of four dogs and a cow.
In these distressing times we find that we are accelerating extinction of plant and animal species. Violence against any living form harms the sacred unity and balance. We come across various species of animals and birds. We have our obligations towards them. When this is felt, our every act becomes harmonious. We have to give equal importance to our feeling aspect of our mind as we have for the intellectual one.

Roll-Down & Fold-Over Yoga Pants Available Online!
I really love the variety and styles of yoga pants that are available today. If you are searching around online for different clothing items to wear during your Yoga work outs, you are in luck! There are several different sizes, colors, types, and fabrics that are used in producing these items. I really love the look and feel of the roll-down or fold-down styles (as they are sometimes referred to). The great thing about Roll-Down yoga pants is they are not only for Yoga workouts!
These pants are so incredibly comfortable, durable and stylish that you can wear them practically anywhere at any time! If I am running errands I sometimes throw on any of my yoga pants and a top and I am all set. They are stylish and make me feel like I am getting a work out while running around stores and getting in and out of my car. Also, here's an extra added plus; I have found that a lot of pregnant women really love these roll down pants because they can still wear them for comfort when they are pregnant.
I think comfort all in all is one of the most important part of buying any sort of clothing and the roll down pants certainly fit the bill. These roll-down pants come in a variety of sizes for different women's shapes, as well as colors and types of fabrics. I have several sets of Yoga pants but it seems the roll down are the ones I pick as my favorite. If I ate too much and feel a bit bloated, then I can roll them up a little further that usual.
Sometimes I just like to look fabulously cool and show off my "yoga curves" so then I roll them down and throw on a Yoga Sports bra. Either way the roll down Yoga pants let you wear the same pants with a different look. Yoga pants surely have come a long way and now is a good time as any to take advantage of that! Listed below are a few examples of sizes, types, as well as colors that these Yoga roll-down pants offer: You can find them in black, white, pink, gray and different shades of blue, just to name a few.
You can also get them in Capri style, great for warmer weather. I also must mention that you can find them for children in a variety of colors and sizes. You can go on several websites to find a range of prices, some which are very reasonable. I love that idea as I would rather have a large variety in my closet that I pay less for then to have a few expensive pair. But whatever your preference, you will find the stock of Yoga clothing online is amazing.

Cotton Yoga Mats - Towards a Fitter You, Towards a Safer World
Life is best led naturally. Yoga is certainly no different. Finally yoga is the art, which teaches you to connect you with your innate most natural self. It's not for nothing, that for generations now, yoga practitioners have preferred to choose the organic cotton mat to perform yogasanas over the artificial options.
But over the last few years the humble cotton mattress has seen competition heat up from other varieties of yoga mats. Mats have evolved over the years, in the same way yoga has over the years. Yoga mats are now made with specific materials suited for a particular brand of yoga. But despite such competition, the cotton Yoga mat has held itself in good stead.
You simply cannot ignore the fact that it's organic. Over a period of time mattresses made of foam or other artificial substances like plastic are known to have resulted in allergies afflicted by the yoga practitioners due to the exposure of naked skin to the mats for long durations. Cotton poses no such problem vis a vis irritations or allergies as it is blessed with a much larger quotient of body tolerance.
Cotton yoga mats have also been a favourite with yoga practitioners because it tends to retain a lot of sweat and arrests any possibilities of slipping. Chances of mishaps during a particularly strenuous asana performed on an artificial mat are slightly enhanced, because the sweat tends to stick to the surface resulting in lubrication. Unlike foam, which is likely to slip on smooth surface, a cotton mat on the other hand rather clings to it. In fact if you sprinkle some water onto the cotton yoga mat before you start your yoga session it would do wonders to the grip too.
There is yet another practical reason why a simple cotton mat wins our vote. Cotton yoga mats are cheaper to purchase or order as compared to artificial mats. Its nothing fancy, just a pack of compact cotton layers, evenly packed and covered in a sewn cotton jacket.
Sure you'd say so what do you do with all the sweat trapped in the cotton yoga mat? Sweat runs right off plastic, foam yoga mats, aren't there chances of catching some kind of an infection with all that sweat trapped inside the cotton?
But here's what makes a cotton yoga mat special. All you have got to do is wash it. If you have a washing machine just rinse it in tepid water, because hot water would shirk the cotton fiber and make your mattress look lumpy. If you don't have a washing machine, just dip it in a tub filled with tepid water and wash it, as simple as it comes.
Finally, if you are into yoga to get yourself as fit as a fiddle. Go organic, use a cotton yoga mat, which is biodegradable. Help the world get fitter too.

Yoga - To Force Or to Feel?
Our asana practice can have a positive impact because it constantly asks us to become more sensitive, more conscious, more aware of ourselves--not just our bodies but also our minds, feelings, emotions, and our very nature. The real value of asana practice is that it can teach us to tune in and truly feel. As our sensitivity increases, life becomes more rich and enjoyable because we can taste the unique flavor of each individual moment. More important, we also become more aware of what moves us toward out dharma and what takes us away from it. This awareness makes us clearer and more peaceful, more able to elegantly handle life's endless dilemmas without feeling overwhelmed or fearful. As a result, we become more effective in all of our actions, and our presence begins to inspire and bring out the best in people around us.
The opposite of feeling is forcing. When we force, we cannot feel, and when we feel, we cannot force. The moment we start to force, we begin to lose awareness of the effect our efforts have on our nervous system, on the situation itself, and on the other people involved. Forcing makes us angry, inflexible, and intolerant; raises our blood pressure; and can eventually create heart problems. Feeling, on the other hand, makes us calmer, more receptive, more understanding, and healthier.
If we force ourselves into Ardha Matsyendrasana II (Half Lord of the Fishes Pose II), the spine will twist where it always has, where it needs the twist the least. In this pose, it is particularly easy to force the body while attempting to reach around the back and grab the shin. To the extent that the desire to do this comes from the ego's urge to satisfy itself--just to prove we can do this pose--it manifests itself as force. Feeling, on the other hand, allows us to tune in to the habitual tendencies of the body and sense which vertebrae are twisting and which are not. Cultivating feeling in Ardha Matsyendrasana II allows movement where there was stagnation, release where there was stiffness, and freedom where there was bondage.
Just as force and feeling are opposites, so are violence and awareness. We often get angry, and sometimes even outwardly violent, when a situation arises that is not to our ego's liking, rather than using it as an opportunity to become more aware. But violence inevitably breeds more violence. The more forceful and violent we are, the further we move from feeling and awareness; consequently, the more violent we become.
I believe much of the violence in our world comes from our lack of awareness, which has historically manifested itself as an unwillingness to see other people's point of view. When we pause and feel, we become more open and more receptive to the possibility that there are valid ways of thinking other than our own.
Sensitivity is often portrayed as weakness, yet it actually gives us the strength to lower our guard and say to an enemy, "Let's sit down and talk this through. How are you feeling? Why are you behaving the way you are?" People who have the security that comes with deep sensitivity and awareness have no desire to be violent; it is insecurity that contributes to violence. Through feeling, sensitivity, and awareness, we can bring insecurity and its resulting violence to an end.
What does all of this have to do with our individual practice of asanas like Ardha Matsyendrasana II? The awareness that we develop on the yoga mat, though seemingly small, affects all that is. As we become more aware in our yoga practice and in our lives, as we move away from force and violence and toward sensitivity, feeling and awareness, we change our individual consciousness and actions. In turn, these changes influence the consciousness and actions of everyone we meet. Slowly we shift the direction the world is taking. As we practice each asana, whether it be a challenging twist like Ardha Matsyendrasana II or a simple standing pose, we have the opportunity to become the embodiment of peace and to make our practice a prayer for harmony in the world.

Four Yoga Business Tips to Get Paying Clients From The Web
Building a web site for your yoga business is an important and effective means of bringing in new students.
It can be a costly endeavor, however, especially if you hire someone to build the site for you. Building it yourself, on the other hand, can be time consuming, especially if you are new to web marketing.
Here are a few tips to help new and experienced yoga teachers and studio owners get the most from a web site.
1. Yoga business marketing starts with your web site's domain name
Most yoga teachers and studio owners spend far too much time deciding on a domain name for their web site.
One of the first places search engines like Google look for keywords is in the domain name. So it makes sense to put words in the domain name that people will actually look for.
People most often search for yoga classes on the Internet by typing in the name of their city and the words 'yoga' or 'yoga class.' Unless you or your studio have already established a well recognized brand name that people will actually search for on the Internet, it's a good idea to incorporate the name of your city with the word 'yoga' into your domain name. You can then register a second domain with the actual name of your yoga business that redirects to the first domain name.
Whenever possible, use '.com,' for your site because it is the most respected top-level domain (TLD) and the easiest for people to remember.
2. Flash is the number one killer of yoga web sites
Flash is a powerful program that can produce stunning graphic displays and play music on web sites. Many web designers build beautiful yoga web sites completely in Flash.
Unfortunately, Flash can sink a web site's chances of success before the site is even launched.
Search engines like Google can't read text saved in Flash. If Google can't read what's on your site, it certainly won't rank you very highly in search results -- even if you offer exactly what people are looking for. And if Google doesn't rank you on page one of its search results for key phrases related to your business, your site might as well not exist. People rarely scan past the first few search results.
The solution: Have your site built in HTML so that search engines can read your content. Use Flash sparingly for visual effects on part of your page, or not at all.
3. An 'autoresponder' is an effective yoga marketing tool, turning web site visitors into paying clients
Incorporate a sign-up form on your web site for a newsletter to send by email periodically. The best newsletter programs include automatic responder or 'autoresponder' capabilities, which send prewritten messages to subscribers at set time intervals.
For instance, when someone signs up for your newsletter, you can have a thank-you message sent automatically. The next day have the autoresponder send your class schedule. Two days later, send a message about the health benefits of yoga. On day four, your autoresponder can send a coupon for a class discount or private session, and so on.
It takes repeated contact to turn web site visitors into paying clients, building your yoga business slowly but surely. An autoresponder system is an inexpensive and effective method of automatically staying in touch with your prospects. Write your messages once and you're free to concentrate on other things.
4. Slow and steady link-earning ensures long-term success of your yoga business's online presence
Earning links from other people's web sites will make sure that search engines recognize your site as an authority on whatever topic your web site covers.
In the past, people submitted their sites to 'link farms,' where all kinds of web sites were included with no organized theme. Next, people engaged in reciprocal linking schemes to trade links between two or more unrelated web sites in an effort to game the search engines.
These days the search engines are smarter, so increasing your yoga web site's authority isn't simply a matter of submitting your link here and there all over the Internet and getting links back.
The best way to get links is to earn them. This is a slower process of creating content on your site that other site owners will naturally want to link to, earning what is called a 'backlink' or 'in-pointing link.'
Link from your site to other sites sparingly, and only link to sites related to your site's theme. A rule of thumb is to consider whether the site you're linking to adds value for your web site visitor. If not, don't link to it.
For example, it may be a good idea to link to a site with a yoga article you want your site visitors to read. It may also be a good idea to link to a national or international yoga directory so that your students can find a yoga class when they travel. Even linking to your favorite local massage therapist or Reiki practitioner could be a good idea (so long as they're not also yoga teachers -- as a general rule don't send hard-earned traffic to your competition) as these fields are complementary to your yoga business and may also get you some referrals from those businesses. These types of links add value for your visitor.
On the other hand, linking to a used car lot or your friend's brother's daughter's baby pictures, cute as they may be, are not such hot ideas.

Holistic Weight Loss Process and Yoga
Holistic wellness concept includes many different aspects and the healthy weight loss is one of them. Some of the available weight-loss programs are based on the holistic approach to the weight loss process. These programs can help you not only lose weight but also keep it off.
Holistic weight loss concept is based on the unity of body and mind.
Through holistic nutrition, detoxification and exercise you can take good care of the physical body. Through yoga, meditations, affirmations and other mind clearing/programming techniques you can increase your self-awareness and start loving and accepting yourself the way you are. Only through self-love and self-acceptance positive changes are possible. These techniques will also help you visualize the reality you want so you will perceive yourself as a slim person even before you lose weight. By taking care of the physical body and using the mind clearing/programming techniques you will not only lose weight but will also be able to keep your ideal weight afterwards and improve substantially your health. This is the holistic approach to the weight loss process.
Even though yoga is mentioned here as a mind clearing technique, it plays a much bigger role in the weight loss process.
How yoga can help you lose weight?
1. Yoga activates energy centers (chakras) that are related to major endocrine glands. It helps clear the energy blockages so energy can move freely and underlying glands can function optimally. Among other vital functions glands regulate the body's metabolism - the fat burning process.
2. Yoga provides a gentle massage to our internal organs including digestive organs. This improves the functioning of the body in general and digestive organs in particular and promotes detoxification of the body.
3. Yogic breathing exercises help calm the mind, increase self-awareness and alleviate stress. These changes are subtle. They become noticeable after three-four months of regular practice.
This way yoga promotes weight loss in three different ways: by allowing the vital energy to move freely and thus regulating imbalances in the body, by massaging internal organs and improving their functioning including elimination and detoxification functions, by increasing our self-awareness through breathing exercises. The increased self-awareness makes us ready for positive changes from inside out.
For these reasons yoga is an important part of many holistic weight loss programs.

Fitness
So many things contribute to our physical fitness or lack of it. There’s diet, exercise, body fat ratios, vitamins and nutritional supplements. In addition, there are the health issues we may have and how we choose to address them, whether it be through allopathic medicine or alternative health choices.
Diets abound in our world. You will probably find that you cannot diet and then go back to your old ways of eating and living and expect to maintain your weight loss. To really keep those changes you worked so hard for, you’re going to have to change how you eat for the rest of your life. You will probably need to include some kind of exercise, too.
You can exercise for strength, flexibility and stamina, as well as for more specific goals. Talk to a personal trainer for details and to set up a personal program. Different programs will contribute more to different goals. Myself, I like Yoga for my exercise program. I have yoga videos from Gaiam.com for about 8 different goals, including strength, flexibility and relaxation, as well as a morning yoga, evening yoga and a yoga video for stress release. Of course, walking is great exercise that almost anyone can do. Swimming is another one. You need a little training, but almost anyone can get some good exercise in a swimming pool.
It’s good to keep an eye on that body fat ratio. I didn’t totally understand this one until I did some research and asked my doctor some questions. One good article is at Weightlossresources.com. It tells you the different ways to measure body fat and gives some guidelines about what percentages are acceptable for your age, height and weight. Check into that. It’s helpful.
Vitamins and nutritional supplements come in all sorts of combinations. You will want to consult with your own health professional for what you need. I did a hair mineral analysis to find out what sorts of minerals my body needed. I got a print out with detailed information on my mineral needs from just a sample of my hair!
Whatever fitness needs you have, be sure to investigate your options and make informed choices. Compare allopathic and natural paths. Be open to simple solutions like diet and exercise, if that is appropriate for you. Our bodies can take a lot, and we seem to be inclined toward health. So, maximize your good health with a well thought out fitness plan that’s right for you!

Affiliate Ads - How to Add Them to Your Website
Adding affiliate ads to your existing website is easy. But to be effective and increase your income, you must choose the right ones, and place them on your webpages in ways that work.
An affiliate is someone who hosts ads for a company in exchange for a commission of the sales. Each company sets their own commission percentage. And they will wait until you've accumulated a certain amount of cash before paying you.
There are 3 steps to getting affiliate ads onto your web pages.
1. Finding a company, product, or service.
2. Applying for affiliate status with that company.
3. Placing their ads on your pages.
Finding Your Affiliate
Start by going to the sites of companies whose products or services relate directly to your readers' interests and needs. Then check their home page to see if they offer an affiliate program. If they do, you'll see a tab, usually on the bottom of the page in small letters, that says Become an Affiliate. They might also use the term Associate.
When you click on the site's affiliate tab, you will be taken either to the company's application page or to an affiliate clearinghouse. For example, Amazon handles its own affiliates, whereas Sephora or Macy's will re-direct you to their clearinghouse, also known as a marketing network site.
An easier way to find a company to represent is to go directly to one of the marketing network sites, and apply there. Some popular networks are Clickbank, CommissionJunction, AffiliateShop, PayDotCom and Linkshare. The advantage? More choices. And it's fun to browse through all the companies, evaluate the styles and artwork of their ad links, and compare benefits. Often a company will have special promotions that you can pass on to your readers. 1800Flowers recently had a special on roses. If you were their affiliate, you could promote that special on your site to get more sales.
Applying for affiliate status is easy. Whether you go to a single company or apply through a network site, simply click where indicated. You will be taken to an introductory page, where you will fill out a form describing your website.
Some companies will take a few days to review your application, and some approve you immediately.
If you get rejected, simply choose another company and move on. Don't take it personally! For the most part, you are reviewed, accepted, or declined by a software program. Some companies simply want affiliates with a certain volume of traffic.
Once you're accepted by a company, you will have access to ads to place on your website. Each ad will contain your affiliate identification. You don't have to worry about being paid. The company or network does it for you. You will have a password to get to your account page, and you'll be able to check it as often as you like to see how your ad is doing.
Choosing an Ad Link
Ad link sizes, shapes, and formats vary widely. Choose from text only, small or large buttons, horizontal and vertical banners, and even flash animations. Some are colorful, some blink like slideshows, some are elegant, some are interactive. Find the ad links that blend with your site's look and feel. And make sure they support the content on your web page.
Amazon lets you set up your own link, and even build a bookstore that you title yourself. Other companies' ad links take readers to a landing page where they can get more information about the product. Gaiam, a lifestyle product company, occasionally offers links in the form of movies!
Placing the Ad Link on your Site
1) Once you've chosen a link, you'll see a small window with HTML. Highlight it and copy it to your clipboard.
2) Now go into your own site, and paste the code into the appropriate page. Often you can do this through your HTML, or by using a module plug-in. Check with Website-DoItYourself if you need help with this step.
3) Pull up your website's page view and see what the ad looks like. Is it where you want it? Is there enough space between the ad and your content? Does it enhance the reader's experience? Is it easy to see?
4) Choose an ad style that blends in with your content. Some experts say that a banner across the top of your page is effective, and others say an ad in the middle of the content works well. You want your readers to see it, but you don't want to annoy them. A huge, flashing button in the middle of your page is probably going to be offensive. But the same button might look good on the top right, with content text wrapped to its left. Don't be afraid to experiment.
Tracking your Progress
Your affiliate or network will have many ways for you to keep track of your ads. Don't be intimidated if you've never done this before. They all have excellent instructions, and responsive help desks.
As the days go by, note which ads - and which placements - are bringing in income for you. Get rid of the ads that don't get hits. In this way you can fine-tune your ads and bring in more income.
With affiliate ads, as opposed to, say, Google Adsense, income depends on your readers actually purchasing the product. Clicking on the ad is not enough. So you want to make your ad links context sensitive. And you want to offer your readers products and services that will enhance their lives.
There is no limit to how many companies or products you can represent as an affiliate. Just as you try different ad link styles and page placements, you will also want to try different companies. It costs nothing to become an affiliate, but don't take the process lightly. Do a lot of testing. With Adsense, you never ever want to click on your own ads. That's a law of the universe. But with affiliate ads, it's okay to click on the links to test them. If your performance is not what the company wants, they may place you in a lower commission category.
So enjoy the process, but choose your programs carefully. Once you're an affiliate, give it all you've got!

Pilates Body Ring Kit Review
I bought a beginner workout mat online from Gaiam, but wanted to get some variations by using something else. I bought the pilates video from Amazon and really loved the added resistance that the body ring provided. When you have to put pressure on the body ring, the 100 is much harder and it is even harder to tell what is meant by 'slightly bend your knees.' The word, "slightly," should be defined. I also wanted to know whether I am using the right muscles or not.
The video includes workouts for the arms that the beginner workout mat does not have. If you use this body ring video and your work out mat for a couple of weeks, you will discover that you abdominal and arm muscles have improved considerably. Therefore the body ring video tapes will clearly do some good.
Individuals, who are more advanced in Pilates and are looking for more challenge, should consider the body ring kit. I have bought so many videos from Amazon, but nothing like the body ring set. As a former dancer, I love Pilates because it helps to build muscles that are long and lean. Pilates focus on core muscle building. The only problem is that Pilates may not do much justice to the upper body as it does with sculpting the lower body.
I also realized, too, that Pilates video tapes are easier than I thought. I wanted to find one that challenged me more and gave me both upper body and lower body flexibility. You can read the rest of the article on our blog.

Ten Ways To Be Eco-Hip
You may be surprised to know the #1 thing you can do to help the Climate Crisis will also greatly enhance your own well-being too:
1.Become a vegetarian. Why? Because nearly 20% of carbon emissions are generated from raising livestock for food including in mowing down the Amazon to plant feed crops and utilizing 50%+ of the world's grains to feed livestock while 1/6th of the planet's people starve. The greenhouse gases generated in producing livestock for food exceeds emission from all forms of transportation combined (13%) and from all offices and homes (8%). By adopting a plant based diet you will become more attractive, vibrant, trim and lower your risk for heart disease, cancer, diabetes and stroke.
2. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Rethink. Check out Earth911.org, Gaiam.com and WomenandEnvironment.org for ideas.
3. In the US, one billion plastic water bottles are discarded every week. They clog our landfills, fill our oceans, and leach harmful toxins into our environment. Use a home water filtration system like Brita and reusable aluminum water bottles instead.
4. Use LED light bulb, and powerstrips with an on-off switch to cut off power and save 75% of 'phantom' energy drained by plugged-in, unused electronics.
5. Save our forests by using cloth shopping bags. Also cut back on packaging and use washable rags instead of paper towels.
6. Buy locally produced organics as much as possible. Including food, personal and home care products. They are healthier for you and the planet.
7. Walk, bike, take public transportation and ride-share as much as possible. One hundred years ago the world population was 1.5 billion. Today it is 6.6 billion. Check out ecocityworldsummit.org and learn about cities of the future.
8. Donate to the The Nature Conservancy's Plant a Billion Trees project at plantabillion.org. Only one $1 to plant a tree. Instead of purchasing gifts how about "buying" family and friends a bunch of Amazon trees. Now that's something!
9. Request a presentation for your organization from TheClimate Project.org, and/or train to become one of their speakers, and/or go to moveon.com and join or start an activist Green group in your area.
10. Check-out Senator Obama's environmental plan and get active in his presidential campaign. Come on folks...together let's get it done!

Bridal Registries - What Every Bride Needs To Know
Creating a bridal gift registry is not difficult, but failing to do so could mean big trouble. Here are a few tips that every bride needs to know to avoid some embarrassing moments.
Every bride should create a gift registry. This is easy to do and it also provides your family and friends with specific items that are needed or wanted for your upcoming wedding. The gift registry eliminates the old problem of receiving three toasters, two coffee pots, and five sets of bath towels, all in the wrong color. Opening duplicate gifts at a shower or wedding can be an embarrassing situation for both the gift giver and receiver. Today, most stores, both small and large, have the ability for the bride and groom to create an online gift registry.
The first thing you need to do is begin taking stock of the things you need for your new home. For some couples, just about everything is needed from dishes to rugs to a barbecue grill. However, for couples who are mingling two homes, gift items will be far more select. In either case, you need to determine the gifts you want so people will know exactly what to buy.
Now, once your list is in hand, you want to determine the stores from which the gifts can be purchased. Keep in mind that while there is nothing wrong in choosing some expensive, high-end gifts, you also want to remember the people who will be paying for the gifts. As a result, choose items that you need but also affordable wedding gifts. By mixing the price ranges up, everyone has something from which to choose. However, you also want to maintain your style, as well as colors.
In selecting merchants, you could easily choose a number of retail stores that have thousands of great gifts, all very affordable. On the other end of the spectrum, you could choose a couple of reputable department stores for your crystal or china pieces. The great thing about an online gift registry is that when an item has been purchased from your want list, it shows the item is taken. Therefore, the person buying can then select something else not chosen by another guest. This will avoid an awkward situation, especially at a small or intimate bridal shower, where all your guests are watching you open your gifts.
The types of gifts you can register for is almost endless, from traditional items like the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living room, and so on, to less traditional stores like home improvement centers
Here are some other unique ideas you may want to consider:
Causes - The website at www.idofoundation.org allows family and friends to donate to a cause rather than buying actual gifts.
Green Gifts - Some couples are into nature, preferring organic things opposed to inorganic items. A great website, www.gaiam.com is an excellent place to visit.
Nature Lovers - Many couples are huge outdoors enthusiasts, loving to camp, backpack, swim, boat, etc. An excellent site that offers these types of gifts is located at www.rei.com.
As you can see, the number of possibilities for gift ideas are vast. However, you need to consider the people that will be attending your wedding or wanting to buy you gifts so you can make practical choices, but also not give up the items you need or want. With so many options, you can have the best of both worlds. Some great tips when registering for your wedding gifts include choosing complete sets, especially for kitchenware and going with specific colors to match your home.
Some of the more common items chosen include - bone and casual china, earthenware, ironstone, tableware, flatware, pots and pans, cutlery, bed skirts, duvets, rugs, towels, shower curtain, blankets, and the list goes on.
In summary, creating a bridal registry will be one of the easier things you will do while planning your wedding, however it's also one of the most important. Don' t take a chance of putting a guest in an awkward situation by skipping this step. Also, choose items you actually need to set up your new home but also gift ideas that people can afford. As a result, you will receive items that that you and your new spouse really need and want and that will fit beautifully into your new home.

Selecting the Best Sticky Yoga Mat
You’ll probably be very pleased with your choice if you have decided to take up yoga. Your strength and flexibility will be increased by doing yoga on a regular basis and it will help you to focus your mind and teach you how to reach a state of tranquility in this busy and uncertain world. The best thing is that your new exercise program won’t require much equipment. A sticky yoga mat is the one major thing you will need.
Yoga teacher Angela Farmer came up with the idea for sticky yoga mats. Doing yoga while her hands and feet slipped out from under her caused frustration. Soon she started using carpet padding to do yoga. Her father soon took interested and patented the first sticky yoga mat. Then came the “Tapas Mat” under the Hugger Mugger company.
Today sticky yoga mats come in a dizzying array of colors and thickness. To find the right mat for you, it is best to take into account the workouts that you do along with your personal taste. A yoga mat at least four millimeters thick is needed by people who practice Ashtanga Yoga which is a fast paced type of yoga preferred by athletes. If you are very thin or frail and need extra padding then you might want to choose a thicker mat.
Other Considerations in Buying a Sticky Yoga Mat
There are dozens of different colors for sticky yoga mats. There are a few that also have pictures or patterns. Many health or sporting goods stores have sticky yoga mats and then there are countless yoga sites online. A basic mat will cost between fifteen and twenty dollars while a more specialized mat will cost you between thirty-five and forty dollars. You can find good deal on used or new sticky yoga mats by checking some of the online auction sites.
The chemicals that go into most sticky yoga mats are a concern for some people. If this is the case then you can choose to use a rubber mat, Gaiam mats, eco-Yoga mat or the Earth Elements mat. It is a little more expensive for these mats at about thirty-five dollars but you won’t have to worry about the toxins in the environment and find the higher price is worth it.
An important first step to practicing yoga is selecting the right sticky mat for your needs Yoga for Beginners. You will be well on your way to enjoying the benefits of yoga once you have a good mat Yoga Exercise.

How to Purchase Environmentally-Friendly Household Items
No home's interior design is complete without the proper bedding and bath accessories to pull the look together. You can find bed and bathroom products in a number of places and there are many different products available through the sustainable resources found across the Internet.
The following article highlights some places to find bedding and bath products for your home and also exposes a few environmentally-friendly choices you can make.
Bed, Bath and Beyond is a Large Retail Store
Bed, Bath and Beyond is one of the most popular stores that offers a vast selection of items for the home. Although this retail store specializes in bedroom or bathroom products, there are many products hight-lighted for many other areas of your home. You can dress your interior landscape from top to bottom at Bed, Bath and Beyond.
Linens and Things is a Well Known Brand
Another fantastic option is a store like Linens and Things. This store is great for finding unique interior design products for bedding and bath. Linens and Things is organized much like Bed, Bath and Beyond and you can find plenty of other things aside from products for the bedroom and bathroom.
Trying Buying Organic, Recycled, or Sustainable Products
If you really want something different that is in line with your environmentally conscious shopping needs, you may want to opt for an organic retailer like Gaiam. This shopping site is pretty good. It offers not so common bedding and bath items manufactured from hemp or recycled materials. I love to browse through these kinds of stores. A person may experience a slightly higher cost for green, Earth-friendly items in the current shopping sites but this little extra cost is worth investment.
Buying Your Household Items on the Cheap
There are some who prefer something thrifty. There are plenty of places to find great deals on bedding and bath products. Outlet stores are ideal stopping points for finding some frugal deals for the home. These retailers often showcase high-end items at a fraction of the price.
Another great place to find a deal on bedding and bath products is the closeout store. Retailers like Big Lots offer discontinued items for the home. There are many great savings offered on odd shaped, or repackaged products as well. Many of the irregularities are not detectable and you can score big with a visit to one of these retailers.
